I'm Down

"I'm Down" was released on July 23, 1965 as the B side to "Help."  It is a McCartney composition with minimal help from John.

McCartney has sung "I'm Down" at many concerts for the past fifteen years.  A blues number almost shouted by McCartney, it remains a favorite of fans.

The song was sung at the Shea Stadium concert and is notable for John and George's laughing during the number while Lennon plays the organ with his elbow.  The group also performed the song on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1965, with McCartney changing the order of the verses.

It was recorded at Abby Road on June 14, 1965.  Harrison played lead guitar, McCartney bass, Starr drums, and Lennon Hammond organ.  McCartney sings lead vocal, with Lennon and Harrison providing backing vocals.
