"Twist and Shout": Little-known Facts about Original Authorship and Performance

"Twist and Shout" was an early signature song by the Beatles, and remains so today. Authorship is attributed to "Russell/Medley." Actually, the song was written by Phil Medley and Bert "Russell" Berns, the latter man a singer, songwriter, and producer who wrote many classics such as "Under the Boardwalk" and "Brown-Eyed Girl."

The song was first recorded by the Top Notes, although most people mistakenly believe that the Isley Brothers were the first to record the song.
