Beatles History: Penny Lane Promo Video Shot

The promotional video for "Penny Lane" began shooting on February 5, 1967. The "Strawberry Fields Forever" video had already been completed. A few shots of Penny Lane in Liverpool were used, but the video was primarily shot in London. George Harrison claimed in several interviews that Beatles movies, together with the promotional videos, may have started MTV. The Beatles video styles certainly influenced the Monkees' television series, and it is perhaps not accidental that the real pioneer in moving music videos onto mainstream TV was Monkee Mike Nesmith.
